Planning with your dog in Mind:

What to do with your dog on your wedding day

“A dog is the only thing on earth that loves

you more than he loves himself.” —Josh Billings

Including Your Canine in the Ceremony

A recent poll found that the day of your wedding is arguably the most important day of your life. Interestingly enough, a close runner-up was the day you brought home your furry friend! Of course, it makes sense that you'd want to share that day with your pup. Sharing your big day with the one you cuddle with on your couch makes sense, but pulling it off logistically may take a bit more effort. We know how important your canine companion is, and we certainly recognize the importance of your wedding day. That's why we've come up with a list of ways to include your furry friend in your big day.

If you want to spend your big day with your dog, there are many ways to keep them involved. In fact, it's said that nowadays dogs are more involved in wedding ceremonies than ever before! No matter how your dog gets involved, it is a great idea to make sure that someone else is responsible for them so you can focus on your wedding. The last thing you want is to be chasing after your pup in a full-blown wedding gown! Pick a trusted family member to look after your dog so that you can focus on enjoying one of the most special days of your life.

Apply These 4 Techniques to Improve dogs in your wedding:

Picking a Pup-Friendly Venue

Before you can picture your flower pup strutting down the aisle, you need to make sure you select a pet-friendly venue. It may be best to search for a venue that is outdoors or has quick access to outside for your dog’s bathroom needs. If it is not specifically stated within a venue’s paperwork, it is a good idea to ask and get approval for pets.

Pawsome Nuptials: Unleash the Love with a Dog as the Ring Bearer!

Using your dog as the ring bearer HERE in your wedding can be a unique and memorable way to incorporate your furry friend into your special day. Here are four ideas to make this experience unforgettable:
  • Doggy Formal Attire: Dress your dog in a cute and matching outfit to make them look like a distinguished ring bearer, with a customized bowtie or a flower collar.
  • Training Session: Prioritize training your dog to carry a small decorative pillow or a cute box with the rings safely attached, making sure they walk confidently down the aisle to deliver them.
  • Pawsome Photoshoot: Before the ceremony, schedule a professional photoshoot highlighting your pup's role as the ring bearer—a perfect opportunity to capture heartwarming moments to cherish forever.
  • Pet-Friendly Rehearsal: Organize a special rehearsal where your dog can become familiar with the wedding venue, practice their walk down the aisle, and get comfortable with the whole setup to ensure a smooth performance on the big day.

Our Favorite Tip: Canine Cameraman

Using your dog as a canine cameraman is a great way to include your dog in your wedding while capturing some candid moments of your guests. Mount a GoPro camera on your dog’s harness and let them wander around the venue capturing all of your precious memories. Tell your guests to interact with the canine camera or let it be a surprise. Everyone is sure to love the added bonus of playing with your precious pup in between dancing and toasts! Best of all, you will walk away with amazing candid footage, all thanks to your furry friend.

Puppy in the Wedding Party

If you really want to get your dog involved in your wedding, make them a member of the wedding party. Your dog can carry your rings down the aisle as the cutest and fuzziest ringbearer your guests have ever seen. Not only will your dog be there to support you on your big day, but the photo opportunities alone will be something you will never forget. Having a four-legged maid of honor or best man makes sense seeing as they are man's best friend after all! Not only will your dog be there to support you on your big day, but the photo opportunities alone will be something you will never forget.

Wedding Woof

Including your dog in your wedding can be a fun and memorable experience for both you and your guests. An added step to make things even easier would be to work with your wedding planner to really pull this off. Have your wedding planner fetch a collar camera for the big day, prepare the venue for your furry friend and retrieve the pup-of-honor outfit for the big day; You kick back and enjoy the show, you've earned it!

I wish I'd incorporated my two sweethearts into the wedding. My MIL nixed it. It was twenty years ago, but it still bugs me!!

    Great topic!

  4. I would think it depends on the dogs. I love my girls dearly but they hate being in pictures and large crowds overwhelm them. We didn't have dogs when we married but thinking about involving them in a formal ceremony would not be kind to them.

Wedding are personal and people should do as they wish. I do think when including those who can't speak for themselves you do need to consider how much enjoyment they will get from the experience. Some dogs are social and will love the experience of being around you.

Another thing to consider is who will be your dog wrangler. Just like when you involve kids in a wedding you need someone to supervise you also need someone who can watch the dog. The dog may be the most well mannered dog in the world but as I've learned with my dogs, people don't always act intelligently around dogs, especially children if you have them at the wedding. You sometimes need someone to protect the dog from the people.

    1. While we agree with everything you are saying, one of our first option is getting someone to take of the dog during the event (dog sitter or a family member) to make sure everyone is safe (including the dog). These suggestions or guide is for couples who are contemplating on including their furry friends in their wedding.

  6. Sadly my dog would not work in an indoor setting as he's too adventurous, but it sounds a lovely concept. Thanks for linking with #pocolo
