How to "Splurge" Wisely on Your Wedding without Blowing your Budget!

Budget-Friendly Guide to Planning Your Dream Wedding

When it comes to your special day, you want it to be unforgettable for all the right reasons. It's crucial to ensure that every aspect of your wedding is flawless, beautiful, and fun. Need some guidance on how to plan a wedding without breaking the bank?

A tight budget can be overwhelming, leading to feelings of stress and worry as you work towards creating your dream wedding.  Our practical suggestions are here to aid you in maintaining composure, staying on track, and orchestrating the ideal wedding while staying within your financial limits. Dive into the details provided below for further insights.

Splurge on these Areas in Your Wedding

1. The Dress - Splurge

Your wedding dress should embody who you are. Just like prom felt like a special occasion, consider your wedding day in the same light. Your gown should showcase your individuality - whether that means representing your background or culture, incorporating your favorite hue, or embracing your unique style with a jumpsuit, pantsuit, or separates.

If you want to highlight your back, consider a dress with a deep scoop back that subtly reveals your skin. To accentuate your waist, opt for a gown with a belt or tie straps at the center.

You don't have to break the bank on a dress (renting is always an option) to look stunning, but it's essential to have it tailored by an experienced professional. For some inspiration, check out our post:  Your Wedding Dress is your Biggest Fashion Moment!

2. Wedding Photography - Splurge
Don't compromise on your wedding memories. Choose a professional photographer who knows how to capture the most important moments - the ring exchange, a classic shot of you both intertwined. Their expertise in interacting with guests and directing you will result in breathtaking images. Prior to selecting a photographer, make sure to request recommendations from past clients.

3. The Bouquet - Splurge
When it comes to your bouquet, don't skimp on quality. Think of it as a key component of your overall aesthetic, so go all out! Visit our Pinterest board (KMichWeddings) for inspiration.

4. The Food - Splurge
If you enjoy good food, splurge on your menu and make it enjoyable. Mix in the foods you have tried while traveling and/or your favorite comfort foods to create an interesting menu. Ensure that the ingredients you are considering are in season. Consult with your caterer before finalizing your choices.

5. The Music - Splurge
The music at your reception is important. While having your best friend's boyfriend play may seem like a good idea, it's better to invest in a professional DJ who can keep the energy high and the guests dancing all night. And don't forget to consider the comfort of your female guests by providing comfortable flats for them to wear. 😁

6. The Venue - Splurge

After you and your partner have agreed on the style and type of wedding you desire, it is time to tour potential venues to check their availability for your chosen wedding date. Your desired wedding aesthetic will guide you in determining the kind of venue to search for - such as venues with high ceilings and chandeliers (which would require less decoration), seating capacity matching your guest list, a designated dance floor, a picturesque outdoor garden, and other specific amenities.

Aim to tour around 3 to 6 venues to explore their offerings, remember to inquire about any details you need clarification on, and take thorough notes during your visits.

Advice from experts: Although it may seem unconventional, consider holding your wedding on a weekday to keep costs in check. Weekday venues are typically more affordable compared to weekends, with prices ranging from budget-friendly to moderately expensive.

FYI: If you are not working with a planner, make sure you have a reliable point person (Maid of Honor) to assist you with all your planning.

  2. I agree with Dee, there are many ways to splurge wisely. For example, when I got married the first time, the dress of my dreams was a sold out style with only the display left...which fit me perfectly and needed only a few repairs from being the display. It retailed for around $2,500 (and that was over 20 years ago) and I was able to purchase it off the rack with its damages for $800. Thanks for sharing these tips and linking up with me.
