As we approach peak wedding season, you might be one of a few couples thinking of planning a dream backyard wedding in the comfort of your homes. While the backyard serves as the main stage for the festivities, it's good not to forget the first impression guests will have of your property: the front porch. A well-appointed and beautifully transformed front porch sets the tone for your guests and the overall ambiance of your wedding. From ceremony to pre-ceremony photos to post-reception farewells, the front porch is a flexible and functional space to include in the wedding day itinerary.

With so much emphasis placed on the backyard, it's easy to overlook the potential of the front porch. But with a few simple touches, the possibilities are endless to transform it into a stunning backdrop for your big day. From adding natural elements, fresh floral arrangements, and greenery to cozy seating and an elegant lighting setup, there are many ways to transform the porch's style and functionality for your home front wedding.

  1. Front Porch Creative Seating Arrangements - Get creative with your seating arrangements for your front porch ceremony! Instead of the traditional outdoor furniture, consider adding some flair by incorporating lounge furniture. Don't be afraid to mix and match different styles and colors to achieve a unique and eclectic look. The key is prioritizing comfort so guests can enjoy the beautiful outdoor setting. Say goodbye to uniform seating and hello to a one-of-a-kind front porch experience!
  2. Add Charming Decor Accents to Your Front Foyer Entryway- Transform your front foyer entryway with stunning decor accents that will leave a lasting impression on your guests. Incorporating natural elements is an excellent way to achieve this. Consider using wreaths, mirrors, and columns. These elements will elevate the look of your front porch and create a welcoming atmosphere that your guests won't forget.
  3. Decorate with Beautiful Floral Arrangements - Transform your space into a blooming paradise with stunning floral arrangements! Embrace the beauty of nature and seamlessly blend a few indoor treasures and natural elements from your flourishing garden for a unique and awe-inspiring display. From branches, twigs, fallen leaves, stones, and stumps. Let your creativity blossom and create a one-of-a-kind décor that celebrates your style and love for nature.
  4. Decorate with String Lights - String lights instantly transform any space into a dreamy wonderland. They can be easily hung along the porch railings, wrapped around pillars or columns, or draped from the ceiling. Consider using warm white lights for an elegant and timeless look, or choose colored lights to infuse a fun and festive vibe. As you decorate with string lights, let your creativity shine! You can hang them in different patterns, such as crisscrossing them overhead or creating a canopy effect. Don't forget to incorporate greenery, flowers, or ribbons to enhance the overall visual appeal.

FYI: What you need to know when planning

As promised, here are what to consider when planning a wedding ceremony at home.

  • Event Timing: First, what type of wedding do you have in mind - a morning, an afternoon, or a twilight wedding? Is it going to be three, four, or five hours long?
  • Parking and Neighbors: The second is parking and how it affects your neighborhood and your guest's experience for the evening. Be sure to connect with your neighbors to let them know your plans for that day. Will there be enough space for your guests to park? Will your neighbors be comfortable with so many cars in the area? Nobody wants Uncle Bob or Aunt Ruth parking on someone else's lawn! How far of a walk will your guests have if parking isn't close to your home? If unsure about parking in your neighborhood, consider renting a shuttle bus for the evening to avert any unforeseen chaos. Have your guests meet at a designated location and shuttle them back and forth for the evening; location, directions, and pickup time should be in the invitations. It will make parking much easier to manage and ensure everyone arrives on time and in good spirits.
  • Logistics: Think about space for guests, restrooms, potential permits, and whether you'll need tents for shelter or to define spaces.

Wrapping it up in your Backyard: Dinner and Dancing

Ending your at-home wedding with a grand backyard celebration is a perfect way to conclude the evening. Guests can enjoy a plated or buffet-style dinner under one tent and dancing under another. And a lounge area with a campfire for guests to unwind before leaving creates a cozy feeling. At the end of the evening, provide a shuttle to transport your guests back to their vehicles. It shows your guests that you value their well-being and make their experience unforgettable with this thoughtful gesture.

***Our 2022 October couple transformed their home front for their micro wedding. They invited 50 people, but 45 attended. We decorated their home front with bales, tree stumps with mums [to fit the season - whites, burnt oranges, reds], an arch with fall foliage, and an acrylic welcome sign. The lounge area had a few of their indoor treasures - chaise chairs, sofas, ottomans, throws, a mix of outdoor furniture, and a fire pit built by the groom's brother to complete the look. At the end of the evening, the happy couple rented a shuttle to transport their guests back to their cars. 👇
