A little history on backdrop

THIS IS HOW BACKDROPS BECAME POPULAR

Before the coming of the green screen and CGI, Hollywood created its rolling plains, intergalactic battles, and daring mountain ranges with the use of ... yes! backings otherwise known as backdrops. These were large painted scenery on canvas which served as the background of certain scenes in historic Hollywood. Nowadays, they’re rare and are basically the forgotten art of Hollywood. Some iconic films that made use of backings include ‘The Sound of Music,’ ‘The Wizard of Oz’ (1939), and the famous ‘Ghostbusters’ (1984). Some contemporary shows use backings too, but almost everyone has gone digital.

Fortunately, backdrops have made a comeback at weddings. Instead of hunting around the world for eye-catching backgrounds, couples now bring it home with the use of carefully painted/constructed backdrops. Nowadays, backdrops may range from the conventional balloons and flower arrangement to an unconventional jungle-warehouse medley or backings depicting words/sentences from your vows, a song, or even lines in a movie – it’s your party, you can do what you want to. You can even decide to have a ‘Gotham night-time’ inspired backdrop in the middle of summer!
