We love this funky and colorful trend inspired by the infamous shag carpet of the 70s. Alana Jones-Mann is credited with starting this colorful trend. She’s reclaimed shag carpet and has somehow made it trendy-- worthy of a wedding cake! Known for her textured piping work that creates this amazing effect, it feels like your cake is constantly in motion. While it is incredibly innovative it is also very versatile! Just by choosing different colors, patterns, and shapes, you can create a cake that really sets you apart!

Another Awesome [Funky] Idea - Intricate Beading Cake Decoration: 

This piping technique makes it appear as if thousands of beautiful beads adorn your wedding cake. Cakes decorated this way are a sight to behold, almost too beautiful to eat (don’t worry, we said ALMOST). Siân-Amy Pettit, @thepetitepudding, created this unique trend after trying out the shag technique we mentioned earlier. She wanted something a little more delicate and intricate beyond what the shag technique could offer. Your eyes move a mile a minute trying to take in all the beautiful intricacies of this technique— and it works for any occasion! 

You can do something more abstract, like this beautiful ocean-colored masterpiece, or something a bit more literal, like this funky piece featuring hot pink flamingos and watermelons!
