Introducing Grilled Cheese In A New Light
“Grilled cheese and tomato soup is the
ultimate comfort meal.” - Ina Garten
Fun Facts on Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Grilled Cheese are mentioned in Ancient Roman texts — the French have been making their famous croque monsieurs since the early 1900s. During World War II, Navy cooks prepared countless "American cheese filling sandwiches" — as instructed by government-issued cookbooks — in ships' kitchens. In the 1940s and '50s, these were usually served open-faced, also known as "Cheese Dream" during the Great Depression, and consisted of one slice of bread topped with grated cheese.
On that note, grilled cheese recipes are growing in popularity and in exotic ways that incorporate savory, sweet, and unique combinations in a format that everyone can understand. It is one of the most popular food categories out there and often ranks alongside home staples such as macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and other foods associated with comfort and family.
Dips and Sides that guarantee
a great Grilled Cheese
But there’s also something else that is awesome about grilled cheese sandwiches that make them perfect for wedding receptions, aside from their versatility. And that is their price. You can get more out of your catering budget if you incorporate a few of these ideas into your wedding menu. Trust us, it’s no small thing to be able to economize in this area as, more often than not, people underestimate their need for food and how much guests want to eat.
Sparkling/White Wines that pair well
with a great Grilled Cheese
You want your ceremony to be beautiful, and the reception memorable. To do that, you will want to offer guests something new, something old, and a little bit of something out of the ordinary. We’ve kept that in mind while looking through the many, many food and dessert ideas that would bring all three.
So, we narrowed it down to grilled cheese sandwiches that combined the exotic with the comforting and also looked at presentation as well as general tenor of the dish itself.
Some of our favorite ideas include the peach bacon brie grilled cheese, chicken parmesan grilled cheese, and the decadent blackberry cheesecake grilled cheese sandwich.
While a great grilled cheese stands alone, sometimes a great dip or a side dish can make it even more delicious - pickled vegetables, tomato sauce, salad dressing, soup, or chutney/jam.
And, they all pair well with a great bottle of sparkling/white wine - Muscadet, Moscato Sparkling, Santa Rita 120 Sauvignon Blanc, Vinho Verde, White Chardonnay, or IPAs, just to name a few.

Extraordinary Dessert Ideas You'll Really Want on your Wedding Menu
Introducing Grilled Cheese In A New Light
Back to You
Whether you’re going for very formal fare or you want something a little bit more fun, grilled cheese sandwiches come in such a variety that you can’t help but find something that will work with your ceremony. If it is the decadence of chocolate, the sweetness of jam and brie, or the savory combination of bacon and cheese, grilled cheese sandwiches are perfect for large and small receptions and also arrive at price points that are pretty hard to beat. This will allow you to not only show off your creativity but also give you that extra bit of wiggle room in your wedding budget for use elsewhere such as on more food, better quality food, decor, or whatever your heart desires. #summerfoodrecipes

DeleteWonderful idea for a party of any kind. Do you make them 'on command' as folks want them or set out big platters? I am hosting a party in the middle of June, about 30 people. I have access to 3 panini makers.
ReplyDeleteSorry for the delay Liz. We encountered a little problem with the blog platform. With that, I think it's best to make them on demand for your guests. This way it will be warm and crunchy and not soggy. Let me know how your event in June turns out. Remember, pair with either a sparkling/white (chilled) wine.

DeleteI am really into kimchi right now and would love to see a grilled cheese idea using it. Any ideas?
ReplyDeleteTHANK you for your patience. Here's what we came up with and think you would like. Let us know how it turned out.
DeleteKimchi Melt or Spicy Fusion Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
Kimchi: Use a store-bought or homemade kimchi with a balance of spicy and sour flavors. You can use a milder kimchi for a more approachable flavor or a spicier one for a bold kick.
* Cheese: Choose a melty cheese like cheddar, Monterey Jack, or mozzarella to balance the bold flavors of the kimchi.
* Bread: Use a crusty bread like a baguette or a rustic bread to provide a nice texture contrast to the gooey cheese and spicy kimchi.
* Spreads: Add some (Korean chili paste) or sriracha mayonnaise to the cheese for an extra spicy kick.
* Meat: Add some sliced Korean-style BBQ beef or any protein you prefer for added protein and flavor.
* Caramelized onions: Add some sweet, caramelized onions to balance the spicy and savory flavors.
Assembly:
* Butter the bread on both sides.
* Place a slice of cheese on the bottom bread.
* Add some kimchi on top of the cheese.
* Add some sliced meat, caramelized onions, and spreads on top of the kimchi.
Place the top bread on the sandwich.
* Grill the sandwich until the cheese is melted and the bread is crispy.
Optional:
Add some crispy, fried kimchi slaw on top of the sandwich for extra crunch.
Use a Korean-style chili paste (gochujang) as a spread instead of mayonnaise.
Add some toasted sesame seeds or chopped green onions for added texture and flavor.
This Kimchi Grilled Cheese combines the bold, spicy flavors of kimchi with the comfort of a classic grilled cheese sandwich. The result is a unique and delicious fusion that's sure to please adventurous eaters!
Yum, so many choices! But the bacon, jalapeño especially caught my eye! Visiting from Thursday Favorite Things.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!
That is a fantastic choice. The touch of heat from the jalapeño and the savoriness of the bacon complemented by a sparkling white wine is the ideal combination. Thanks for visiting and sharing, Tina.
