AirBnB Weddings: Why This is Absolutely a [Cost] Effective Idea

Your Complete Guide Honeymoon Planning

Not only was it the perfect solution for their wedding ceremony
and reception, but it helped solve their honeymoon dilemmas as well...

I recently talked with an acquaintance of mine about her upcoming wedding and their honeymoon plans. She mentioned that she and her fiancé had booked a beautiful Airbnb on the beach for the wedding instead of a traditional venue — and that they planned to stay there afterward for their honeymoon

The longer we talked, the more I realized how well it solved both their venue and honeymoon dilemma. The big venues they toured felt too big and impersonal for the small, casual wedding they wanted. The smaller ones weren’t available on their dates, were too expensive, or simply didn’t match the vibe they were looking for.

Choosing an Airbnb gave them a space that felt theirs — a place where they could host their ceremony and reception and then simply stay on for their honeymoon after everyone left. That kind of continuity is appealing to couples who want their wedding to feel like a multi-day experience, not just one big event.

If you’re considering this approach — an Airbnb as the backdrop for both your wedding and your honeymoon — here are some things to think about as you plan.

A wide interior view of a sophisticated, open-plan event space featuring vaulted white ceilings and dramatic gothic-style arches. The room is designed with polished wood floors and divided into curated zones: a long white minimalist dining table, a contemporary lounge area with a tan leather sectional and grey sofa, and a sleek black industrial-style staircase leading to a loft. A grand, tiered gold chandelier serves as the focal point, complemented by natural light from arched windows and decorative stained glass.-Airbnb vs Venue Space Which is better-venue ideas-honeymoon planning-Weddings by KMich - Jenkintown PA

Airbnb is THE ANSWER TO YOUR HONEYMOON Dilemma

If you’re like my friend, you know that touring endless wedding venues can be exhausting and overwhelming. Some are too fancy; some are not fancy enough. They can also be too big or too small and sometimes they are just not available on the dates you want.

Many couples think outside of the box and choose to go the Airbnb route instead. With so many unique properties to choose from in endless amazing destination locations, couples having smaller weddings are finding beautiful places to host them, often for a fraction of the cost of a traditional venue and fits in with their honeymoon dilemma.

That Sounds Great! Is It as Easy as Just Finding a Spot and Booking It?

Although the steps involved in booking an Airbnb are easy to do directly from their website, there are some additional measures you’ll need to take if you’re planning on hosting a wedding or event there.

  • Read the rules. If you’re considering an Airbnb for your wedding, always confirm with the host that ceremonies or receptions are permitted on the property. This includes clarifying how many guests are allowed onsite, whether vendors are permitted, and if there are any additional requirements or fees for hosting an event. It’s also best to keep this communication documented through the platform so expectations are clear on both sides.
  • Verify the pricing and rental packages. If you’re only planning on using the house for the weekend, make sure that there are no restrictions on the number of nights you are allowed to rent. Also, figure in the costs of any deposits and taxes in addition to the nightly rate to make sure it fits your budget. Even with host approval, some locations require permits for private events — particularly if you’re planning amplified sound, rentals, or larger guest counts. This is something couples often overlook when planning a backyard-style wedding, but it’s worth checking early to avoid surprises later.

And while Airbnb as a platform doesn’t market itself as a wedding venue, many hosts are open to celebrations — as long as expectations are clear and agreed upon ahead of time.

That said, hosting a wedding in a private rental often means taking on responsibilities that a traditional venue typically handles. Depending on the property and guest count, couples may need to bring in rentals such as tables, chairs, lighting, or restrooms — details that are easy to overlook when focusing on the setting itself.

Even with these extra considerations, the experience can be incredibly rewarding for couples who value intimacy, continuity, and a more personal celebration.

Pros to having an Airbnb Wedding - Airbnb Wedding + Honeymoon Concept

  • One location for ceremony, celebration, and post-wedding stay
  • A slower, more relaxed transition into the honeymoon
  • Space to host a multi-day experience rather than a single event
  • A setting that feels personal rather than commercial
  • For couples craving ease and continuity, this approach can feel especially meaningful

Airbnb Absolutely Can Get You the Honeymoon You Want

Choosing an Airbnb can be a great way to have a smaller destination wedding without going through a large resort or hotel chain. It’s also an excellent way to incorporate your honeymoon into the wedding planning and overall budget. It’s an unfortunate reality that so many couples are choosing to forgo the honeymoon these days because of budgeting constraints.

If you host your wedding at an Airbnb, you can simply extend your stay at the property a few days longer and start the honeymoon immediately after the guests have left. Chances are, the cost of renting the Airbnb for a whole week will equal less money than hosting a wedding in a separate venue and jetting off on the honeymoon afterward.
