Absolutely…Mirror Gallery Walls Will Make Your Event Space Shine

There’s a new trend in gallery walls that’s catching the eye of both designers and bloggers, and it’s not your traditional collection of pictures. Instead, it’s a beautiful wall of mirrors.

It’s no secret that mirrors make a room seem larger, and that the way they reflect light (natural and artificial) makes it seem brighter as well. In fact, interior designers have long been using strategically placed mirrors to make small rooms seem larger and airier. Recently, this trend has expanded to wedding event spaces as well and couples are setting up these walls to add a touch of luxury and elegance to their receptions.

Sound interesting? Here are some ideas to help you make the trend work for your own wedding.

Best Venue Type for a Mirror Gallery Wall

Mirror gallery walls work best in smaller spaces. So if your venue is a big ballroom space or one that has a ton of big windows, it might not make such a big impact. However, if your wedding is intimate and the venue cozy and small, this design element can help change the overall ambiance of the space. Some examples of good spaces to use a mirror gallery wall include rustic barn settings, historic houses, or other event halls that don’t have high ceilings or a lot of natural light.

Incorporate Your Wedding Style

If you’ve decided that a mirror gallery wall will work with your space, next think about the overall style of your wedding and reception. The wall is an extension of your bridal fashion and individual taste. Is it modern, romantic, rustic, beachy? You want to make sure that the mirrors you choose for your wall match the aesthetic of the rest of your decor. A variety of antique mirrors in varying shapes and sizes would work great with a romantic, vintage wedding style. A modern wedding, however, would want mirrors with clean lines and geometric shapes.

Find inexpensive mirrors at thrift shops and estate or yard sales. Remember, you can always spray paint the frames to match your wedding color scheme and create a cohesive and classy look.

Plan and Implement Your Gallery Wall

After you’ve sourced your mirrors, you’ll need to plan how you want them to look when they’re up on the wall. Contrary to popular belief, a gallery wall is not a bunch of like items that you place randomly. You must have a plan for how they will be arranged.

Visit your event space and take measurements of the wall that you want to use. Then, back at home, map out an area of that size on the floor (or a wall of your home). Play around with the layout and placement of the mirrors until you find one that works. When you do, note down all of the measurements for spacing and positioning. You may even want to draft up a template and use that template to duplicate your vision at the venue.
Quick Tip: Use non-permanent picture hangers, such as Command strips, to secure the mirrors to the venue wall. That way you won’t leave any damage behind and you can easily reposition mirrors if you change your mind about the layout.
