Wedding Trend Moving Toward Personalization

7 Ways You Can Personalize Your Wedding

Weddings are becoming more and more personalized. It’s no longer about following a trend or a tradition. It’s about how you share your wedding story with your family and invited guests so that it can be memorable and different.

We know all weddings are not the same. Brides are looking for the next best way to show off their style, taste, and personality in their wedding. Oh, let’s not forget the grooms in this; they have a say too.

“...It’s no myth that more and more couples are looking to put their personal stamp on their big day - and the facts back it up. Surveys conducted by The Knot in both 2016 and 2017, the largest of their kind, show that couples are increasingly spending more money each year to customize the look and feel of their wedding…”

“...In fact, these same surveys also show trends towards fewer guests being invited to the wedding, with a larger individual focus on the bridal party, groomsmen, and close family. Brides and grooms are willing to spend more and get creative on personalized experiences and gifts when they’re more selective about their guests…”

We had a recent couple asked a question about how they could have a memorable wedding - (see our post - How can a Person Make His or Her Wedding Memorable?) and we suggested: “Personalization is the only way to go”.

Each couple’s love story is unique. It’s the more intimate part of what a wedding is really celebrating. It may be the story behind how or where you first met, the (sometimes embarrassing!) first date, or the moment you realized you met "the one". Not to mention the engagement itself!

Let’s see how you can personalize your wedding:

7 Ways to Personalize Your Wedding

1. Save-the-Date/Invitations
Your invitations should set the theme or style for how your wedding is going look or be. This is the first piece of information that your invited guests will receive in the mail.

First, they will look at their invites to determine whether it’s going to be formal or informal or just another wedding. Then they will touch their invites, feeling for quality and to see how much of an effort you put into creating them…

So, start sharing your wedding story with the right invitations. For example, your save-the-date could feature balloons or passport type luggage tag, or you could go with a floral invitation.

2. Ceremony

After the save-the-date/invitation, your next step to personalization is your ceremony. This is where you will continue the theme or look you started with. Whatever your invitation style, you do the same here. So, your ceremony can be indoor/outdoor with a backdrop, an arch, or aisle markers. Remember to take the theme from your invites. For example, here we have balloons as aisle markers and a beautiful floral arch (your arch does not have to be floral, you can use balloons that represents your wedding color(s) instead)

3. Entrances - Ceremony/Reception

Personalizing this area will serve you well. When your guests arrive they should still have that vibe they started out with when they received their invitation. So, the entrances to both your ceremony and reception should be captivating. Be very creative here. The example provided has live statues with an aisle runner to greet your guests as they enter. These are just to get your creative juices going.

4. Favors

(Double duty) Since guests love getting a festive favor at the end of your reception, you can use your centerpieces as favors. Or, you can personalize your favor with this novel idea to say thank you- Tiny Wedding Albums. It's a tiny compact book that tells the bride and groom's story. This shows both of your stories from childhood to present. On one side the bride and the other the groom! This is a unique idea!

5. Cake

Instead of the traditional cake, have a sweet station, aka dessert station. You don't have to follow what's trending, just do you. Your sweet station can be one of your favorite comfort foods- cheesecake, cupcakes doughnuts (add your favorite shapes), brownies, cookies, etc.
You can even put a spin on your favorite desserts by adding your favorite flavors, fruits, etc. For example, you can do sweet n sour doughnuts, or ice cream cheesecake, or even tangy brownies. You see where I'm going with this. Be creative!

6. Dress

Your dress is your biggest fashion moment! Remember your prom and how it seemed like high stakes?! Well, your wedding day is an even bigger deal…all eyes are on you!👀 Keep in mind, you don't have to spend a fortune on a dress to look beautiful, however, you do need to have it fitted by a good tailor. So deciding how you are going to shop will help with this. Read here Decide how to Shop!
FYI: Once you find the dress that’s you, you really don’t need to do a big bouquet. Remember Meghan Markle on her wedding day? She had a small yet chic bouquet that made her whole look stunning.

7. Tuxedo/Suits

Just like brides, grooms want to look like the best version of themselves on their wedding day and this means wearing the best of the best. To find the best tuxedos or suits, grooms can head to stores like Men's Wearhouse, Bloomingdale, Sak Fifth Ave, Nordstrom and explore their stunning collection of top name brands - Burberry, Vera Wang, Joseph Abboud, just to name three.
